Let's start the story of this home right from the start shall we. When Jay & Gord decided to make the move from mainland Vancouver to island life in Victoria, they turned to their good friend and realtor extraurdinaire Christina Stack to help them find the perfect pad. Top three must haves on the docket were open modern architecture, under 2,500 sqft and high end finishes. It only too 2 weeks for Christina to hand over the keys to the ideal house; a brand new home with modern lines and an open layout. The only (easily amendable) negative was the house was a little flavourless, devoid of personality and very beige town. So Christina, one of my closest buds, called me up to see if I could help Jay & Gord inject a little style into their space, and turn it from a generic builder home into something that was uniquely theirs. They needed all new furniture, and asked we source most of the peices from the store Christna co-owns with hubby Chris Rothery, Only Human. I love a good collaboration, so I was more than happy to dig in.
Now let's meet the clients. As co-owner of WildPlay Elements Park, Gord takes his pleasure very seriously. He's a savvy business man who also knows more than just a thing or two about astronomy, and is one of those all-round genuine nice guys. Jay is a hard working, mountain biking fire-cracker with a love of quirky art, good wine and a good laugh. These people were speaking my language when they told me they wanted their space to be vibrant and modern with a little quirk, truly a client-designer match made in heaven. And to complete the circle of perfect pairings, OnlyHuman was the ideal source to outfit the space, with great pieces from HAY, Gus Modern, Bocci & BluDot. The collaboration resulted in a tailored interior that is casual, friendly & energetic; a mirror reflection of Jay & Gord's personalities and style.
